Greetings. I am nearing the end of my vacation, the week of Christmas through the week of January 1. I will be back on the road on January 8 or possibly January 7, Lord willing.
At the request of family members, I have decided not to work on Mondays beginning this year. I will be seventy-six on ...

The best! It may be a bit much to uncover and cover your piano each time you play it, but you might want to consider getting a piano cover to keep on your instrument overnight, or while you are on vacation. These are great for churches and other places where pianos are not used every day. They c...

Good! This grand piano is protected from dust and other stuff in its environment. Copper wound bass strings are particularly vulnerable to dust. As dust accumulates on these strings, it becomes embedded in their windings and actually changes the robust tone quality of the strings into a dull, co...

Not Good! Leaving a grand piano open much of the time is not a good practice. The best rule to follow is to keep your piano closed when you're not playing it. An opened piano collects dust, which not only settles on the plate, the soundboard, the hammers, and other such things in an unsightly way...

I need to make a correction!!! In my last post I posted a picture that was supposed to be $90 in cash, but was really only $70. That is because I somehow miscounted my twenty dollar bills. There should have been four twenties, not three. Whoops! I did clarify in the text portion of the post that ...

Here is what I charge for regular tuning -- $90. It has been the same price since 2011. If it has been more than a year since your last tuning, your piano will probably need a quick "pre-tune" (alias "pitch raise," "rough tune," etc,) to get it close to "in tune," so that it will take and hold a...

If you are not getting your piano tuned every six months, your piano is missing the great benefits of regular twice yearly tunings, and I am missing out on time with a lot of great dogs! These two are Tank (on the left) and Sadie (in the foreground). Chester is out of camera range. We'll see him ...

Sometimes when I am tuning for a customer, I'll say, "Your piano is pretty well at pitch." Most customers are incredulous. "So, why are you here tuning if the piano is at pitch?" I say, "Because the piano is out of tune." The customer is more incredulous. "How can my piano be at pitch and out of ...

As all of the previous posts will testify, Mr. Barber is very talented at his craft and will do whatever is necessary to ensure your piano is perfectly tuned. Our experience with Mr. Barber has been very unique with respect to the level of customer service he has provided our family. With all sincerity, he is one of the few people that I've dealt with over the course of my lifetime that puts the needs of his customers before his own. We are grateful for everything he has done to protect and maintain our piano. I can assure you that you will be more than satisfied with any service Mr. Barber performs on your piano. We will never use anyone else...

About us

Hi. I am Dick Barber. I am a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) as a member of the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG). The RPT certification is awarded to PTG members who successfully complete a number tests, both written and hands one. I am also a member to the Master Piano Technicians (MPT), another fine organization for piano technicians. I do mostly in home care of pianos -- pitch raising, tuning, repairs, regulation, installation and maintenance of the Piano Life Saver humidity control system. When I find a piano that needs a service which is outside of the scope of the services that I offer, I am happy to connect you with one of my  respected colleagues who will be able to give you the help that you need.
